Book a half-day taxi trip to Cape Sounion and discover beauty and magic at the ruins of the ancient temple of Poseidon, god of the sea.

We will start our tour driving down the Saronic Coast, a scenic drive along the beaches of Glyfada, Vouliagmeni and Varkiza and along picturesque seaside resorts of Lagonisi & Saronida. In about an hour we will be arriving at Cape Sounio and the majestic Temple of Poseidon (constructed in 444-440 BC). It is considered a major historical attraction and offers a spectacular view to the Aegean Sea, positioned almost 65 meters above sea level.

Constructed entirely by marble, the temple offers a gleaming white breathtaking view from the sea, as philosopher Martin Heidegger writes in hid book in 1962 “the gleaming-white ruins of the temple”.

Furthermore, Lord Byron has also carved an inscription on the base of a column of the temple that reads:

Place me on Sunium’s marbled steep,
Where nothing, save the waves and I,
May hear our mutual murmurs sweep…

After our visit to Sounio, I will safely return you to Athens along the same coastal road.
